Nyaight of the Living Cat Trailer Unleashes Viral Feline Chaos Ahead of Summer Premiere

A new trailer for the absurdly adorable and apocalyptic anime Nyaight of the Living Cat has dropped, giving fans a first look at what may be the strangest and most charming “nyandemic” yet. The upcoming series, animated by OLM (Pokémon, The Apothecary Diaries) and led by celebrated executive director Takashi Miike (Ichi the Killer, Audition), officially premieres on July 6 exclusively on Crunchyroll.

Set in a world where a virus turns humans into cats upon contact, the series follows a bizarre and hilarious survival story as people struggle to resist the urge to pet their fluffy pursuers. The trailer teases surreal action, cuddly danger, and plenty of cat-caused chaos.

Nyaight of the Living Cat (nya essentially means ‘meow’) is based on the manga of the same name by Hawkman and Mecha-Roots and features a standout voice cast. Masaaki Mizunaka voices Kunagi, a mysterious cat café worker with amnesia and superhuman abilities. Reina Ueda plays Kaoru, a high schooler working alongside him. Rounding out the main cast are Reiji Kawashima, Yu Serizawa, Subaru Kimura, and Yoshiki Nakajima, among others.

The series has also locked in some major musical talent. Japanese glam rock legends THE YELLOW MONKEY will perform the opening track “CAT CITY,” while punk-influenced rock band WANIMA delivers the ending song “Matatabi.” Composer Koji Endo contributes the series’ score, with guitar work from Marty Friedman and a death metal touch by Heidi Shepherd of Butcher Babies.

Adding to the buzz, Nyaight of the Living Cat will have a special screening of its first episode at Anime Expo on July 3 in Los Angeles. Additionally, episodes 3 and 4 will debut early at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal this summer, ahead of their official streaming dates.

With new episodes arriving every Sunday across regions including North America, Europe, Oceania, and parts of Asia, Nyaight of the Living Cat is shaping up to be a must-watch blend of offbeat humor, stylish animation, and, of course, cats.
