Demi Lovato's "Fast" Signals a Bold Dance-Pop Comeback

Demi Lovato has officially dropped “Fast,” the lead single from her upcoming ninth studio album, tentatively titled DL9, marking a vibrant return to dance-pop.

Produced by Zhone, known for work with Kylie Minogue, the track embraces an electronic, high-energy sound, moving away from the rock edge of her 2022 album Holy Fvck. The music video for “Fast,” released alongside the single, captures Lovato navigating a fiery urban landscape, amplifying the track’s sultry, dance-floor-ready energy.

With lyrics like “I wanna go fast / I wanna go hard / I wanna go anywhere, anywhere you are,” the song blends sensual vocals with pulsing synths and an infectious beat, echoing her EDM hits like “Solo” with Clean Bandit. Lovato initially built anticipation for “Fast” by wiping her Instagram in early July and sharing cryptic teasers, including references to Britney Spears’ lyrics, fueling speculation about her influences.

“Fast” emerges from a year of sonic experimentation, with themes of love and sensuality at its core—and as her first major musical release since Holy Fvck, “Fast” reestablishes Lovato as a pop performer, delivering a track primed for club remixes and plenty of widespread airplay.
