Everything We Know About the Upcoming Slasher Game, SummerCamp
If you’ve been mourning the loss of Friday the 13th: The Game or yearning for another hit of blood-soaked camp chaos, it’s time to get very excited. A new indie project called SummerCamp is stalking its way toward release, and it looks like the spiritual successor horror fans have been dying for.
Developed by Mera Interactive, SummerCamp is an asymmetrical multiplayer survival-horror game that captures everything you love about retro slasher flicks: isolated cabins, doomed counselors, and a relentless killer in the woods. Think classic VHS horror energy, but with modern gameplay mechanics and an eye for cinematic detail.
While we wait for news about its official release date (and trailer), we’re going over everything we know so far.
The Setup: One Slasher, Seven Victims
Like Friday the 13th, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and Dead by Daylight, SummerCamp pits one player as the Slasher, hunting down up to seven Counselors trying to survive the night. And much to our excitement, the devs are said to be leaning heavily into realistic animations, and immersive maps, offering a layered experience whether you’re playing hunter or hunted.
Naturally, the Slasher isn’t just some lumbering brute—they come equipped with supernatural tracking powers and traps, giving the game a more tactical edge. Meanwhile, Counselors must repair vehicles, unlock escape routes, or just hide and pray they don’t get spotted. Classic slasher vibes.
Atmosphere That Kills
Visually, SummerCamp is going for a moody, ‘80s-style aesthetic—soft lighting, foggy woods, flickering lanterns, and all the glorious blood splatter you'd expect. The game is reportedly built with motion-captured kill animations, meaning every takedown will be gruesome, varied, and absolutely brutal.
The devs have also promised multiple playable maps, each inspired by slasher lore staples: lakeside docks, mess halls, cabins deep in the trees. There’s even a plan for a sandbox mode, where players can explore maps without objectives or build their own custom horror scenarios. It’s horror-heavy fan service in the best way.
No Microtransactions, Just Mayhem
In a move that will thrill longtime gamers, Mera Interactive has confirmed SummerCamp will feature no microtransactions, cross-platform play, and (fortunately) dedicated servers. And as a result, we’re already getting the impression that this team is more focused on building a tight-knit, passionate horror community than a cash grab project.
To help fund development, the studio is launching a Kickstarter campaign, with early supporters gaining access to exclusive cosmetics and beta testing (which feels more than fair). So far, fan response has been extremely supportive, with avid horror gamers already speculating about Slasher archetypes, Counselor backstories, and dream map ideas.
What Makes It Different?
Where the beloved title Dead by Daylight leans into licensed horror, one task, and game-y mechanics, SummerCamp seems poised to bring something more atmospheric, grounded, and cinematic. It’s aiming to revive that specific tension of being lost in the woods, unsure if the killer is nearby—or watching you from the tree line. And we’re here for it.
