Black Phone 2 Recieves its First Ominous Trailer

Universal Pictures released the first official trailer for Black Phone 2, offering a glimpse into the highly anticipated sequel to the 2022 horror hit. Directed by Scott Derrickson, the film is set to premiere in theaters on October 17, 2025, and from what we’re seeing, it’s hinting at a darker, supernatural evolution of the original story.

After teasing the return of the sibling duo from the first entry—the sequel trailer introduces an ominous scene of a ringing black phone in a snowy, isolated phone booth. “Did you think our story was over? You of all people know that dead is just a word. Vengeance is mine,” Ethan Hawke’s sinister character, dubbed The Grabber, says to his only surviving victim over the phone. The footage then suggests The Grabber (who died in the first entry) now operates as a Freddy Krueger-like entity, haunting from beyond the grave, possibly through dreams or supernatural means.

The cast features Mason Thames returning as Finney Blake, now 17, grappling with the trauma of his past captivity. Madeleine McGraw also reprises her role as Gwen Blake, Finney’s sister, who experiences disturbing visions and receives calls from the black phone in her dreams, centered around three boys at a winter camp called Alpine Lake. New cast members include Demián Bichir as a camp supervisor and Arianna Rivas as his niece, alongside returning actors Jeremy Davies as Finney and Gwen’s father, and Miguel Mora as Robin.

The trailer definitely takes the time to highlight a shift to a high school setting, exploring coming-of-age themes alongside psychological horror—which also suggests that the film series aims to elevate the stakes this time around. And considering how successful the first film was, Black Phone 2 has the potential to be another spooky season hit when it hits theaters this October.
