fromis_9 Lights Up Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles
In January 2025, K-pop group fromis_9 signed with ASND, a new start-up agency that also includes Red Velvet’s Wendy. Five of the eight original members of fromis_9 remain: Hayoung, Jiwon, Chaeyoung, Nagyung, and Jiheon.
fromis_9 performed in the United States before, all of their shows being part of KCON. However, now they finally got the chance to go on their first world tour, Now Tomorrow, and I couldn’t have been more excited. I visited the Los Angeles stop at the Orpheum Theatre. Even though fromis_9 has fewer members, their performances showed me that they’re as strong as ever being a quintet.
The group started off the concert with one of my favorite songs from their catalogue, “WE GO.” Excitement exploded throughout the venue as the popular single marked the start of a memorable night. Fromis_9 then went on to play many of their new songs from their most recent mini-album, From Our 20’s, including “REBELUTIONAL,” “Love=Disaster”, and “Strawberry Mimosa,” along with one of their older songs, “Blind Letter,” mixed in. While the first set of songs that kicked off the concert was a bit front-loaded with songs from their most recent project, it made sense given that the tour acts as a promotion for it.
Then, the members went straight into their solo acts, with Jiheon performing a cover of Taylor Swift’s “Love Story,” Nagyung covering “Tayeon’s All About You,” and Chaeyoung performing Selena Gomez’s “Who Says.” Hayoung took a different approach and mixed up the pace with a dance cover instead to EVAN GIA’s “ANXIETY KILLS,” while Jiwon finished the set with a sultry cover of Ariana Grande’s “Greedy.”
Afterwards, the group performed tracks like “Rewind” and “Attitude,” then “Supersonic,” which got the crowd really roaring. It’s one of fromis_9’s most successful singles to date, so that wasn’t a huge surprise. While I would’ve loved to have heard them perform “Take a Chance,” which was my favorite track off the single album of the same name, I’m at least glad one of the songs on it was represented.
Fortunately, they performed my favorite song off of From Our 20’s, which is “LIKE YOU BETTER,” as well as one of my favorite fromis_9 songs in general, “DM.” As far as K-pop concerts go, I would’ve been happy to end the show on such a high note, but I knew the encore was coming.
The encore consisted of “Stay This Way,” “LOVE BOMB, “Merry Go Round,” and “Feel Good(Secret Code).” “LOVE BOMB” easily got the crowd the most excited, as it’s one of the group’s most popular songs, and I’m glad the final set had a song from every era of fromis_9. According to other videos and setlists, some cities even got an extra song in “Eye Contact,” which actually became one of my recent favorite fromis_9 songs. I do wish the Los Angeles show had gotten that too, but even without it, the concert was fantastic.
As someone who didn’t get to witness fromis_9 during their early KCON performances, I was looking forward to seeing one of the most underrated K-pop girl groups finally get their own time to shine. And they did not disappoint.
They even mentioned that they hoped to do another world tour in the future, and if that ends up happening, I’ll definitely be there.
