Lewis Pullman Addresses His Return in Avengers: Doomsday

On the heels of a generally successful MCU release, actor Lewis Pullman, who starred as Robert "Bob" Reynolds, aka Sentry, in Marvel's Thunderbolts, is addressing his character's next return in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday (set for May 1, 2026). And while his exact role in the larger story remains a mystery, Pullman's recent insights into Bob's precarious position within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) represent the tempting dynamics of a hero whose immense power comes with a dangerous alter ego, The Void, making him both an asset and a liability for the New Avengers.

Lewis Pullman on How His Character Could Fit into Avengers: Doomsday

"It's a great question. I'm really excited to find out," Pullman told Men’s Health when asked about Bob's future. "The Thunderbolts don't want to let him out of their sight, because they realize that if he's caught in the wrong hands, or if he's not being supported enough by the right people, he might be dangerous. But they also want to keep him close in case they can figure out a way to use him. He's a very good asset." He added, "It's a hard situation they're in. With all the other characters that are going to be in Avengers: Doomsday, there will be so many opportunities to figure out how each might come into play—and how Bob might come into play with any of them."

In Thunderbolts, directed by Jake Schreier, Pullman's Bob evolves from a troubled figure into the powerful Sentry, to unexpected member of the New Avengers alongside Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova and Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes. His mental health struggles, depicted as a parable for inner conflict, resonate throughout, with The Void embodying his trauma. Avengers: Doomsday, directed by the Russo brothers, will then unite teams like the Fantastic Four and the New Avengers against Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., teasing several surprises along the way.

With plenty of characters returning and the involvement of several new MCU faces, Avengers: Doomsday is clearly pulling out all the stops to mold the film into a monumental MCU event.
