J-pop Group PSYCHIC FEVER Talks New Music, US Tour, and Connecting with Fans
Ever since their exhilarating debut in 2022, PSYCHIC FEVER, a seven-member J-pop group under LDH JAPAN, has been steadily propelling toward international fame. Their commanding stage presence, marked by intricate choreography, has even helped the group build a strong following—perfectly reflected in 1.7 million TikTok followers, 413,000 YouTube subscribers, and 261,000 monthly Spotify listeners.
Previous tracks like “Just Like Dat,” with 19 million YouTube views, and “Paradise,” with 13 million, certainly helped establish their stature as well-rounded performers, in addition to showcasing their knack for crafting hits that resonate widely. Their recent debut at SXSW 2025 also turned heads, setting the stage for their upcoming EP, PSYCHIC FILE III, due for physical release on June 18. The lead single, “Gelato,” brings a timely, summery energy with infectious hooks and a vibrant music video, hinting at the EP’s four diverse tracks that highlight the group’s growth.
Now, as PSYCHIC FEVER gears up for a U.S. tour in July and a performance at Japan’s Summer Sonic festival in August, they’re ready to bring their bold energy to fans across stages (and playlists) worldwide.
You recently signed with Warner Music Group and headlined at SXSW, marking huge milestones. How have these international experiences shaped PSYCHIC FEVER’s approach (or desire) to connecting with fans worldwide?
JIMMY: Many of our fans first got to know us through social media, which makes me want to connect and resonate with them directly in person. We love going to different places to perform live, and experiencing various cultures often opens new creative doors for us. So, I really hope we can visit as many places and meet as many people as possible through our performances.
TSURUGI: Delivering our feelings to people around the world has become the very reason for our existence! Connecting with fans worldwide and sharing those emotions is a joy beyond just being artists—it’s a joy as human beings. This has made our passion for future activities, and for life itself, burn even brighter!
From your debut under LDH JAPAN to preparing for PSYCHIC FILE III, what’s been the most defining moment in your journey as a group, and how has it strengthened your bond as seven members?
WEESA: The U.S. tour was a huge milestone for us. Even before our debut, we had the desire to challenge ourselves on the global stage, so being able to make the U.S. tour happen was truly a significant achievement.
REN: That was our very first solo tour, two years ago. After completing our training in Thailand and powering up, we were able to show a stronger version of ourselves. It was also a place where we could showcase the performance we had built together as a team, so we were very motivated and it became a valuable experience for us.
The pre-single “Gelato” brings a vibrant summer boy band vibe. What inspired its creation, and what would you say is its purpose on PSYCHIC FILE III?
RYOGA: “Gelato” was inspired by the feeling of refreshing summer breezes and those magical, romantic summer nights. We wanted to create a vibrant and catchy track that captures the joyful energy of the season. On PSYCHIC FILE III, it serves as a pre-release single that sets the tone for the EP’s experimental and diverse musical styles. The song adds a fresh, upbeat flavor that complements the overall mood we aimed for in this project.
JIMMY: “Gelato” has an alternative vibe with predominantly English lyrics, giving it a catchy, addictive quality that keeps you coming back for more. While the melody is smooth and easy to listen to, each member brings a unique approach that differs from typical hip-hop tracks, making the song engaging and full of depth. As the pre-single, it sets a fresh tone for PSYCHIC FILE III by showcasing this blend of styles and inviting listeners into the EP’s diverse sound world.
Is there a track that you believe is the hidden gem, or maybe had a dark-horse quality that will surprise people?
RYUSHIN: I’d say it’s probably “PROMISE.” It’s not a strong or aggressive song, but since its release, it’s gained a lot of popularity and feels like a bit of a dark horse to me.
KOKORO: For me, it’s “Gelato.” The music video is out, and it’s a perfect song for the upcoming summer. The more you listen, the more you get hooked by its pleasant sound and the choreography, which has a sweet and refreshing vibe.
The EP plays with different genres, including hip-hop, hyperpop, and even some nostalgic feel-good sounds. What concepts or themes particularly excite you for this EP—and would you like to revisit any of them in future releases?
RYUSHIN: I’m really excited to take on various challenges this time as well! It feels like we’re experimenting and researching what kind of FILE this will become, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how everyone reacts when it’s released. I also think it would be fun to try making songs produced by different members or in various combinations, so I want to challenge myself with that too!
WEESA: The theme is evolution. All the songs combine what we’ve built so far with current trends. I hope PSYCHIC FEVER’s music continues to evolve by incorporating different elements. Personally, I like rock and have made some songs myself, so I want to try that style someday.
KOKORO: It’s about evolution. We’re challenging ourselves with songs that PSYCHIC FEVER hasn’t expressed before, and I hope everyone can feel that. We’re working hard to express an even more evolved version of our music and ourselves, so please look forward to it!
You’re hitting the U.S. for a tour in July. What are you most looking forward to sharing with American fans, and how will these shows differ from your Japan performances?
REN: After our last U.S. tour, we want to show the fans in America an even more evolved ourselves, along with unique performances that only fan meetings can offer. Since this comes right after our live tour in Japan, we hope to deliver a slightly different side of PSYCHIC FEVER.
TSURUGI: We want to send our love! I want to express that I exist because of everyone’s support. Our U.S. tour helped us gain a lot of recognition, and we’re eager to expand the PCF community even more! Just like in Japan, the fan meeting shows and interactions in America will be exclusive experiences, showcasing sides of us that can only be seen there.
Performing at Summer Sonic in August is a pretty big deal, too. How are you preparing for this iconic festival—and what’s your favorite thing about performing at a festival?
RYOGA: We’re very excited to have been confirmed for SUMMER SONIC. We don’t plan to just perform a regular live show—we want to create a special package unique to that day. From costumes to the setlist, we’re paying attention to every detail, and the whole team is working together to prepare a performance that will definitely lead to the next step. Above all, since it’s a special summer festival, we want to enjoy the heat as part of the experience and create a show that stays memorable for everyone.
JIMMY: It’s truly an honor to perform at one of Japan’s biggest festivals! We’re very motivated, and I believe it will be an important stage for our future growth. We’ll deliver the best performance we can right now, including new songs, so I hope everyone looks forward to it!
Circling back to the EP, what’s one goal you’re aiming for with PSYCHIC FILE III, and how do you envision your music evolving in the coming years?
RYOGA: Our goal is for the songs on this EP to be included in playlists all around the world. I’d be really happy if even one of the four tracks becomes a favorite for someone, and if our music can bring a little energy and motivation to everyone’s daily life. Moving forward, we want to keep working hard to challenge ourselves by performing at festivals and award shows worldwide through our music.
KOKORO: I hope this work will be listened to globally, just like “Just Like Dat.” Through this release, our passion has grown even stronger, and we will give our all to create songs that go beyond expectations in our next projects.
